Cone Handle to Catch and Shoot
A warm-up drill that combines dribbling through cones, relocating, and finishing with a catch-and-shoot attempt.
Instructions
- Set up 3 cones and place one outside player as the passer
- The player dribbles back and forth through the cones, changing direction at each cone
- The outside player calls for the ball
- The dribbler reacts, passes out, and moves to open space for a catch and shoot
Coaching Points
- Keep the dribble tight through the cones
- Watch the player outside, and react immediately to the outside call
- Deliver the pass on time and on target
- Stay low and get feet and shoulders organized before the shot
Variations
- The outside player only signals by raising a hand.
- Assign different required dribble types through the cones.
- Replace the cones with a live defender. The dribbler stays in the circle, protects the ball, and passes out when the outside player calls or signals.
