4v4 Switching Off-Ball Screens

Small-Sided 10 min 8+ players

4v4 small-sided game focused on switching off-ball screens. Offense plays from a 4-out setup with pass-and-screen-away actions, while defense switches every screen and protects drives

Court diagram: 4v4 Switching Off-Ball Screens basketball drill

Instructions

  1. Set up 4v4 in a 4-out alignment
  2. Offense must pass and screen away
  3. Defense must switch all screens
  4. Any offensive player who catches the ball should look to drive to the basket
  5. Defense protects penetration and provides weak-side help

Coaching Points

  • Announce the screen and the switch
  • As the screen arrives, take one step toward the ball and basket to avoid getting caught in the screen

Variations

  • Start by passing the ball around the perimeter. On “go,” or after 2 passes, rotate the defense clockwise and start live after the next pass
  • Allow flare screens and back screens, not only screen-away actions
