3v3 Help and Rotate
Competitive help-and-rotate drill that trains close-outs and x-out rotations in a live situation.
Instructions
- Defender x1 starts with their back turned to create a disadvantage. Player 1 starts whenever they want to create an advantage.
- Lower off-ball defender x3 helps on Player 1. x2 floats to cover the gaps.
- Player 1 passes to Player 2 or Player 3.
- Defender x2 closes out
- x1 rotates to the open player
Coaching Points
- Maintain correct weak-side positioning.
- Stop the drive outside the paint
- Communicate ("help", "I go", etc.)
Variations
- Use different starting positions for Players 1, 2, and 3.
- Players 2 and 3 can move
- Disadvantage can also be created by: having x1 touch the coach hand, x1 starting on the side of the attacker, etc.
