2v2 Help and Recover (or Rotate)
Competitive help-and-recover (or rotate) drill that trains close-outs and simple rotations in a live situation.
Instructions
- Defender x1 starts with their back turned to create a disadvantage. Player 1 starts whenever they want to create an advantage.
- Off-ball defender helps on Player 1.
- Player 1 passes to Player 2.
- Defenders (x1 or x2, depending on the defensive system) recover to Player 2 with a close-out or on the penetration line.
Coaching Points
- Correct weak-side positioning.
- Stop the drive outside the paint
- Close where Player 2 is going, not where they were
- Use small steps on the close-out
- Set close-out direction according to the chosen defensive system
Variations
- Player 2 can move
- Disadvantage can also be created by: having x1 touch the coach hand, x1 starting on the side of the attacker, etc.
